Viewing Agent

Very professional staff, felt well guided at every step of the process, like how you do business, particularly like that you took ownership of the viewings of the property.

Excellent friendly service, punctual feedback and adapting to my requirements. Very quick to set up the sale of my house. Excellent photography too! Highly recommend Turpies and and their team.

Working with Gillian again was an absolute pleasure. When we decided to sell our million-pound home, she introduced us to Turpies Prestige — a perfect fit for a property like ours. From the moment she arrived, Gillian guided us seamlessly through every step of marketing a high-end home and helped us truly understand the types of buyers we could expect. We have never felt in such capable hands. Gillian coordinated...

Jobs & Employment

Linlithgow sits in the heart of West Lothian, approximately 20 miles west of Edinburgh and 30 miles east of Glasgow. This royal burgh dates back to the 12th century when King David I established a rudimentary settlement near the loch.

The town expanded and steadily grew in significance during the 15th and 16th centuries when Linlithgow Palace became a favoured residence of the Stuart monarchs. Most famously, it was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots in 1542.

The town follows a traditional Scottish burgh layout with a long, broad High Street running from the palace in the east to the railway station in the west. The impressive St. Michael’s Church stands next to the palace, while its modern spire remains a distinctive landmark which is visible across the town. Linlithgow Loch provides an ever-present, picturesque backdrop to the town.

Historically, Linlithgow thrived as a market town and royal administrative centre. During the industrial revolution, it became known for leather tanning, whisky distilling, and paper making.

Linlithgow boasts a wonderful range of property types spanning several centuries. The town centre includes historic stone-built properties dating from the 16th to 19th centuries, many with distinctive architectural features.

Beyond the town centre, you’ll find Victorian and Edwardian villas, post-war homes, and a few more modern developments. The most sought-after properties can be found on streets such as The Vennel, which offer the best views of of Linlithgow Palace and Loch.

The upmarket areas around Friars Brae and Lennox Gardens feature larger detached homes with gardens, while Springfield and Riccarton offer quality family housing.

As you might expect, Linlithgow offers excellent transport options for locals and visitors alike…

  • Car & Road: Linlithgow sits just off the M9 motorway, providing quick access to Edinburgh (20 mins), Stirling (25 mins), and Glasgow (40 mins). The A706 runs south through the town, connecting to the surrounding areas of West Lothian.
  • Bus: First Bus and McGill’s operate regular services through Linlithgow, connecting the town to Edinburgh, Falkirk, Stirling, and smaller surrounding areas. The main bus stops are located on the High Street, with services running throughout the day.
  • Train: Linlithgow Railway Station is situated on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow line, with trains running every 15 mins during peak times. Edinburgh is just 20 mins away, while Glasgow can be reached in around 30 mins. The station also serves trains to Stirling (15 mins) and Falkirk (8 mins).

Linlithgow offers numerous historically significant and naturally beautiful locations that define this ancient, royal burgh. Here are a few to look out for.

  • Linlithgow Palace: The magnificent ruined palace stands as Linlithgow’s crowning glory. This former royal residence – where Mary Queen of Scots was born – embodies stunning architecture, includes beautiful grounds, and allows for spectacular views across the loch.
  • Linlithgow Loch: Encircling the palace, this natural loch provides beautiful walks, wildlife watching, and fishing opportunities. The path around the loch is approximately 2.3 miles long, and offers a timeless view of both palace and town.
  • St. Michael’s Church: Adjacent to the palace, this historic church dates from the 15th century and features a distinctive modern aluminium spire added in 1964. The interior contains fascinating historical elements and beautiful stained glass.
  • The High Street: Linlithgow’s traditional Scottish burgh main street features historic buildings, independent shops, cafes, and pubs housed in structures dating back centuries.

Linlithgow’s employment landscape includes numerous local businesses and opportunities created by its strategic location between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The town centre supports numerous small businesses, including retail shops, food establishments, and professional services that employ local people.

The largest employers in the immediate area include the public sector (West Lothian Council, NHS, and education), Oracle Corporation’s campus at Linlithgow Bridge, and several business parks on the town’s outskirts. Notable among these is Oracle, which maintains a significant technology centre that employs skilled IT professionals.

The nearby Falkirk and Grangemouth industrial areas also provide substantial employment opportunities in manufacturing, petrochemicals, and logistics.
